Professor Patricia B. Arinto

Professor Patricia B. Arinto is the Faculty Regent of the University of the Philippines and the former Dean of the UP Open University Faculty of Education. She holds a Doctor in Education degree from the Institute of Education, University of London and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Technology-Based Distributed Learning from the University of British Columbia in Canada. She is also an alumna of the University of the Philippines for her baccalaureate and master’s degree.
Prof. Arinto is an expert in distance education, learning design, and teacher professional development in technology-supported learning, about which she has published several book chapters and journal articles. Her research involvement and external work include being the Team Leader for the Technology-supported Teacher Professional Development in Early Literacy Instruction project funded by USAID; Theme Adviser for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in the Digital Learning for Development (DL4D) project funded by the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC); Deputy Principal Investigator of the IDRC-funded Research on Open Educational Resources for Development (ROER4D) project; and Project Leader and Principal Investigator of an Australian Government-funded study on the use of tablet computers in public secondary schools in the Philippines.
Prof. Arinto will be the plenary speaker for the 1st plenary session on Open Educational Practices at the 5th National Conference on Open and Distance eLearning (NCODEL) to be held on 22-23 November 2017 at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Manila, Philippines.
